Client Brief : To supply a hardware/software solution which logs full or partial pallets containing seafood into or out of a cold store. It needed to interface to MYOB for invoicing purposes.
Our Solution : We supplied a label printer, barcode scanner and software which generated a "licence plate" identifying the pallet and tracking its location within the cold room. This licence plate remained active until the pallet was removed from site.
This application required multiple interfaces - printing, tracking using barcodes, MYOB interface and visual displays of pallet locations. Each pallet was scanned in to the store and either fully or partially scanned out of the coldroom at some future date. The scanner chosen for this application was the Cipherlab 8200 which is actually a mobile PC with the capacity to store many thousands of scans. The date and time of each scan is stored in the database. Reports can be generated listing all of the comings and goings of product. Each pallet has the capability of having electronic notes attached to it and invoicing is handled automatically by interfacing directly to MYOB.
Each pallet rack was 3 pallets deep so each location required three barcode labels to be generated. These labels were affixed to the racking and were scanned by the forklift driver as each transaction occurred.
